Dog lovers celebrated International Dog Day with a special walk

There were lots of wagging tails and smiles as dogs and their owners met up for a ramble around Dalston village to celebrate International Dog Day.

Vet Graham Lewis  led the walk which is featured in our new Dog Walking Guide.

“The weather was perfect, and we had a really enjoyable walk and made some new friends,” said Graham who brought his dogs Clova and Skye on the one mile walk on Friday (AUGUST 26).

“Exercise and socialising are very good for our dogs – and for us too. It was lovely to see everyone having such a nice time.”

Charlotte Woodruffe from Bridge End did the walk with her Labrador Bella. “I thought it would be a nice opportunity to meet some new local dogs,” she said. “I walk her morning and evening and you end up seeing the same people or sometimes no one at all.”

“I think the Paragon dog walk is great,” said Catherine Davison who brought her corgi Luna, and lives near Gretna. “Socialising dogs has come a long way. This is getting them used to new environments, traffic and all sorts of things they are likely to come across every day.”

Wendy Pleasant moved to Wreay recently and joined the group with her standard poodle Criffe, so they could make some new friends. “This was an ideal opportunity to find out about the local area and meet new people,” she said.
