Respiratory endoscopy can be performed at the clinic or on yard with our portable endoscope. The procedure involves passing a camera up the nostril and through the larynx into the trachea. This allows us to visually assess the airways and guttural pouches of your horse while also assisting in taking samples if required. In most cases this is done under standing sedation, and horses tolerate it well.
This procedure may be performed to investigate coughing, poor performance, or abnormal respiratory noises during exercise. It can also be used in the control of equine strangles as a way to test for carrier status.
