A fully equipped modern equine operating theatre, and padded anaesthetic and
recovery box are now ready for use.
Below are some photographs of a colt is anaesthetised and castrated.
|
Anaesthesia is induced in our
padded knock down box with an injectable anaesthetic agent. The patient is
intubated to maintain it's airway. The patient is lifted and moved into the
operating theatre. |

|
Here Liz and Paul are lowering
the patient onto inflatable airbags. These prevent damage to muscles and
skin which can occur on hard surfaces when the horse's weight cuts off blood
supply. |

|
In theatre the patient is
connected to an oxygen supply. Volatile anaesthetic agents are added to the
oxygen to maintain anaesthesia for the period required. Here Liz is
monitoring the patient's anaesthesia. |

|
Here Debbie is monitoring the
patient's pulse rate. In the background Paul and Sally are preparing the
patient for surgery. |

|
The patient's hair has been
clipped and the skin sterilised prior to surgery. Sally is wearing sterile
gloves and gown and is about to make the first surgical incision. |

|
Later during surgery. Sally is
removing one of the testicles. |
