Dogs and cats over 8 are classed as geriatrics. At this time in life the body is in decline, and the diet can be modified to help deal with this slow down. Older animals require a diet which is lower and better balanced in protein as the kidneys are less able to break down complex protein and toxins, and lower in salt and phosphorus in order to reduce stress on the heart. High digestibility is important so that the older pet can digest all the goodness from the food. Such changes should improve the chance of a longer life for your pet.
