Other Topics of Interest; March 2003 David Black has been awarded Specialist status by The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in Bovine Health and Production (Reproduction). There are only 18 vets currently recognised as Specialists in this field, many of whom are academics or in industry. RCVS Recognised Specialist status is not easily achieved. To be included on the List of Recognised Specialists, an individual must have achieved a postgraduate qualification at least at Diploma level, and must additionally satisfy the RCVS that they make an active contribution to their specialty, have national and international acclaim and publish widely in their field. A Recognised Specialist must also be available for consultation and referrals by other veterinary colleagues. For further information visit, www.rcvs.org.uk . October 2002 Gary Lewin has been awarded the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery, to compliment the certificate he already holds in Ophthalmology. Gary is now accepting surgery referrals from other veterinary practices, as he has done with ophthalmology for many years. It is difficult to achieve one certificate, to gain two is an outstanding effort.
