Emergency call out

We cover a wide geographical area and can draw on the resources offered by both Dalston and Newbiggin to provide a prompt and efficient service to all our farm clients. The farm animal section is led and managed by Vets who hold specialist qualifications, so support and back-up is always available from colleagues with in-depth knowledge and experience.

Nutritional Advisory Service

We believe we can help farms become more profitable by working in partnership with farmers and nutritionists. We use the Rumnut computer programme which allows us to cover all aspects of nutritional advice from trace elements to gross energy and protein status.  It does this by bringing together data from all available sources to provide an independent assessment of the nutritional status of stock and can be tailored to dairy cows, suckler cows, beef rearing and sheep.

Routine fertility using ultrasound scanners and DAISY

Easy access to data stored on Interherd allows us to review herd fertility performance at regular intervals.  This is combined with the benefits of early and accurate pregnancy diagnosis and the ability to recognise and analyse potential problems at an early stage.

Mastitis Advisory Service

Assessment and advice on all areas of mastitis control and udder health including aspects of milking machine performance, bulk tank analysis and individual problem animals.  Our service includes the use of the Alfatronic Mark IV to measure vacuum and pulsation levels and hence provide an independent assessment of machine performance.

Large Animal Facilities at Newbiggin

More technical or complicated cases can come to the Townhead Veterinary Centre, where we have the facilities to carry out further investigations and/or surgical procedures can be undertaken in optimal conditions.

In 2002 we successfully ran our first DIY AI training courses for both our own clients and farmers from other practices. The following year we expanded this to include training courses on other aspects of animal disease management, such as fertility and lameness. These courses continue to be popular today.

In 2003 we developed and licensed a semen store and distribution centre working closely with breeding companies and also allowing us to better develop the on-farm semen collection service.

We are proud to be a founder member of XLVets - a national group of veterinary practices committed to the future of British Agriculture
