Liz Jackson - Veterinary Surgeon

I am a Director at Paragon with responsibility for the equine department and facilities at the Newbiggin centre.  I returned to Cumbria in 2003 to begin work at Paragon.  I have a particular interest in equine reproduction and dentistry and I hold the Royal College Certificate of Equine Practice.  I organise the equine newsletters and client education evenings at Paragon.

In my spare time I enjoy mountain biking, running and skiing.

Paul May - Veterinary Surgeon

I am a large animal practitioner, with a particular interest in equine.  I am senior clinician at our Newbiggin centre, and share responsibility for the purpose built equine centre with Liz Jackson.  I have a keen interest in Fell ponies and the Fell Pony Syndrome and have been involved in several research projects on the subject.  I also particularly enjoy lameness and racing work.

In my spare time I am a keen artist and sculptor.

DSC00970.JPGSam Harding - Veterinary Surgeon

I work part time at the Dalston and London Road Surgeries and enjoy both small animal and equine work.  In 2005 I added a certificate in Veterinary anaesthesia to my further qualifications.  I have had an interest in horses for a long time - competing for Lancashire in working hunter ponies and then progressing into eventing which I thoroughly enjoyed. Nowadays my two young sons keep me very busy so I don't get to spend much time with horses - though we do have a little Shetland pony on loan.

I love to compete and race at Ullswater Yatch Club when I get the chance, in dinghies or small cruisers, and was Ladies Champion with my work colleague Kath Aplin this year!

Sarah Lewin - Veterinary Surgeon

I work part time as a part of the equine team and am mainly based at the Dalston Surgery.  I hold the Royal College Certificate in Equine Practice.

I have always had a strong equine interest and have ridden myself for many years, my daughter Katherine now also rides on her pony 'Midge'.  In my spare time I enjoy getting out onto the hills.

Lucy Hindmarsh - Veterinary Nurse

I am a qualified veterinary nurse and I have worked at Paragon Veterinary Group for four years.  I now mostly work as an equine nurse based at our Newbiggin practice but I also work as a small animal nurse at Dalston one day a week.  I am also a sheep AI/ET technician and during the sheep breeding season I am busy with the sheep artificial insemination and embryo transfer work which can be on Newbiggin centre or on farm.  I am responsible for caring for the equine in-patients at Newbiggin and assisting with lameness investigations and surgery.

In my spare time I enjoy horse riding.

Kelly Smith - Trainee Veterinary Nurse

I have worked at Paragon since October 2008 as a trainee equine veterinary nurse.  Prior to working here I had just completed an Equine Sports Science degree at Nottingham Trent University.  I work full time within the equine department at Newbiggin, both on and off site and occasionally assist with other large animal work.  I am responsible for caring for the equine in-patients at Newbiggin and assisting with lameness investigations and surgery.

Outside of work I compete regularly at BSJA with my horse Riana and many of you may see me at local shows.

Gilly Fraser - Promotions & Marketing

I wanted to be a Journalist or a Vet when I grew up - but I was rubbish at sums and science, so a Journalist it had to be!

Now - after a very fulfilling career in the media, including 22 years with Border TV, I'm doing PR for Paragon Vets, so I've gone at least some way to achieving my second childhood ambition.

My spare time isn't plentiful but it's almost all devoted to my two ex-racehorses Bounce and Barra Lad, my dogs Zara and Dixie and my cats Puskas and Cash.  My husband Malcolm also gets the occasional look-in!
